The front main door of a hotel in Buckinghamshire was smashed in by approximately 8 armed police at 4.30 am Thursday morning.Terrified guests were woken up by police knocking on their doors looking for someone.
The staff at the hotel were stressed by the action and guests complained about the police action.
The action appeared to be inappropriate. The police had already called into the hotel the day before with photos asking staff if they had seen the person. There was no person in the hotel with that description.
The management of the hotel consider that the action taken by the police was heavy handed and not good for their business. A phone call to discuss the matter by the police would have saved police time and money.

Police forces pay £500,000 compensation
Police paid out more than half a million pounds in compensation last year for raiding the wrong properties.

Forces across Britain shelled out to repair broken doors, smashed windows, wrecked walls and even damaged ornaments.

According to a request under the Freedom of Information Act, 30 police forces paid £560,000 in compensation and repair costs last year.

The Metropolitan Police Service paid out the most, £283,829, more than half the total sum nationwide.

They also issued the highest single payout, £6,932, though the force was not able to reveal what this was for.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) had the next highest overalltotal, paying £45,072.70 last year, followed closely by Lothian and Borders Police with £43,880.89.

In fourth place Kent Police paid £26,523, while Thames Valley Police came fifth with a total of £25,725.14.

The figures revealed payments for replastering and redecorating, replacing ornaments, fixing locks and providing glazing services.

The most common costs among 3,607 payouts were for replacing or repairing doors, listed by 50 per cent of forces.

In the last financial year Durham police paid out for damage to 35 doors while Northamptonshire Police had to replace eight.

Due to time constraints most forces were unable to break down each claim individually.

But 13 per cent of police forces admitted repairing locks and seven per cent said they had had to pay to replace ornaments.

Another ten per cent said they had to pay compensation after breaking into the wrong address.

Grampian Police paid £1,159.71 last year ''for entering the wrong property when attempting to execute a lawful warrant''.

Dyfed Powys Police had to pay £1,000 for raiding an ''incorrect address'' and Strathclyde Police paid an undisclosed sum following a ''forced entry to the wrong house''.

In September drugs officers from Northamptonshire Police terrified a young mother when they tried to smash down her front door with a battering ram - with a warrant for next door.

Nursery nurse Carly Payne, 24, was breastfeeding five-day-old daughter Bella on the sofa when police burst in, arresting her partner, stepfather and his friend - who were later released without charge.

The mother-of-two from Wellingborough, Northants., said the police should be ''ashamed'' for bungling more than 3,600 raids last year.

She said: ''That's an absolute joke. Northants Police told me these mistakes were rare but it looks like the police screw things up all over the country.

''It's crazy, I can't believe there have been so many mistakes. The police need to do their homework much better in the future.''

Northamptonshire Police have finally replaced her door 12 weeks on.

According to the statistics the majority of claims paid out are for repair costs, but some are more unusual.

More unusual compensation payments from last year came from Northamptonshire Police, who paid £40 for a damaged pet cage and £100 to repair a tent.

Strathclyde Police had to find £1551.50 after an ''allegation an officer damaged the ceiling during a search''.

Most police authorities confirmed they would only pay compensation if their officers were deemed to have acted ''unlawfully''.

Compensation is only appropriate if the search is ''not lawful'' or force used cannot be shown to be ''reasonable, proportionate and necessary to effect entry''.

Escape Kingston (formally Reflex) opened it’s brand new shiny disco doors on Friday 24th October 2008 following a major £250k refurbishment and makeover by proprietor Martin Church.

Having owned the venue in it’s previous incarnation “The Reflex” for 16 years, Martin decided to totally overhaul the existing site, redesigning the entire floor plan and layout, installing state of the art light technology and a new 20k sound system downstairs, whilst completely demolishing and rebuilding the first floor of the building, resulting in three key new contemporary interiors for our customers; the “Main Dancefloor”; the “Luxury Lounge” and the “VIP Boudoir”. Legends are normally a long time in the making. Think of legendary music venues and names like the Hacienda, Marquee and Cavern spring to mind for the key role they played in nascent bands’ careers. However, in each case the passing of the years has only served to heap more mystery on the already epoch-making gigs to which they bore witness. It’s no mean achievement then, that in a few short years the Barfly has earned a status which ranks it alongside these illustrious names from the past.

It wasn’t always so. The beginnings, in a pub on the outskirts of Camden in late 1996, were as humble as the subsequent years have been impressive. In those early days the stench of the less than salubrious toilets would have been enough to put off even the most hardened gig-goer, had it not been for the quality of music pounding out from the PA in the Falcon’s dark, dingy back room. But soon-to-be-big bands were, from day one, a key ingredient, bringing with them an endless line of discerning music fans. Stereophonics played several times in their early, formative years, as did the likes of Death in Vegas, Feeder, Coldplay, Muse, Doves and… just about any other band who’ve tasted success in the last five years! As London listings magazine Time Out put it, Barfly was (and still is) firmly established as THE place to go to “glimpse the stars of the future”. Even Noel Gallagher (never a man to mince his words!) was moved to comment that Barfly was “ Ten years ahead of anybody ’s time”.

 A move, in March 2000, to the Monarch, a few hundred yards away at the other end of Camden, has only served to make things better, the larger venue allowing even more music fans to cram inside. If a visit to the toilets no longer leaves one urgently seeking out for the nearest medical facility, still the expectant, electrified atmosphere of the place is the same as its always been. More so, if anything. Since the move, Barfly has played host to, amongst others, The Strokes, The Vines, Starsailor, Wheatus, Elbow, The Cooper Temple Clause and The Electric Soft Parade, not to mention being the main venue for filming of the still-talked-about Barfly Sessions TV series (which included the likes of Coldplay, Muse, JJ72 and Badly Drawn Boy). Not that big names are what the Barfly is exclusively about. A policy of nurturing new talent has always been key to the ethos, with a total of some 1000 plus bands passing through the venue each and every year. Not all will make it big, of course, but all who play have passed a stringent quality control process before being allowed the opportunity to perform on the hallowed stage, ensuring that, even if the names are unfamiliar, the 50,000 customers a year will be guaranteed one thing – quality music. 

For a team with such obvious talent spotting ability, expansion was always on the cards. A second Barfly, in Cardiff, opened its doors in April 2001, the objective being to bring the same idea - local talent mixed with more established touring bands - to a new and eager audience. Success in Cardiff has lead to the opening of further venues, in Glasgow and Liverpool, as well as the purchase of a fifth in the shape of Fibbers in York. All continue to support local talent, and are established as cornerstones of the music scene in their respective areas.

In addition to the venues, Barfly is also responsible for spawning The Fly magazine, which, since its launch in March 1999, has become established as one of, if not THE, most important new music magazines in the country.

With a many-pronged attack in its mission to bring good music to the nation, the Barfly legend looks set to grow and grow…

Located right next door to Legends, The Outpost is a chameleon of bars. During the week is it a great value friendly place, perfect to meet friends old and new or have a home cooked snack or a game of pool. By the weekend, the bar becomes the perfect pre-Legends venue or simply a great place to have a few drinks in a masculine environment.

Opening hours are from 12pm Monday to Friday and from 1pm at the Weekend. You can always expect fantastic prices and a warm welcome. Happy hour runs every day (including weekends) until 7pm.

From the outside, Napoleon's looks quite unprepossessing and perhaps the reason why many people fail to venture inside is because you cannot see the interior from the street, giving the bar an unnerving sense of mystery.

However, Napoleon's must be doing something right since it can claim to be the oldest gay club in Manchester.

The club has only changed ownership once since it was opened by Colin Rigby and the late Foo Foo Lamarr back in December 1972 and few venues can boast such continuity.

Current manager Michael Roscoe proudly claims that he knows the first names of most of his punters giving the club a welcoming and friendly atmosphere.

The venue plays music from the last decade on the ground floor, camp and cheesy tunes upstairs and more laidback sounds in the recently refurbished basement.

Jilly is a huge underground venue that caters for rock fans, but most importantly it covers the many subgenres assocated with the rock and goth scene.
